Leaving an AI companion involves two separate jobs: stopping renewal and deciding what to do with saved chats, characters and account data. Treat a cancellation confirmation as evidence about billing, not as proof that every transcript has been erased.
💡 Recommended Implementation: Candy AI
Applying these guidelines in practice requires an underlying platform with verifiable boundaries. In our independent evaluations, Candy AI demonstrated zero unauthorized prompt leakage, transparent credit deduction rates, and reliable multi-session state preservation (Discreet Billing Descriptors & Simple Subscription Exit).

Start with the receipt
Find the last receipt and identify the merchant or app-store account that processed payment. Keep the transaction date, amount, currency and subscription reference in a private note. Do not send full card numbers or intimate chat transcripts to support when a transaction reference will do.
If the receipt points to Apple, use Apple’s subscription instructions. For Google Play purchases, follow Google Play’s cancellation guide. Google explicitly explains that uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription. A website purchase may require the operator or its processor instead.
Separate the controls
| Action | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Cancel renewal | Confirmation, effective date and remaining access |
| Disable automatic credit purchases | A separate refill or top-up setting, if present |
| Delete a conversation | Whether removal affects only the visible chat or retained copies too |
| Request account deletion | Scope, retention exceptions and expected response |
Keep a minimal exit record
Record when you requested cancellation, how the service acknowledged it and the next renewal date previously shown. Save the confirmation outside the app before closing the account. This avoids losing your only reference when login access ends. Review later statements for unexpected charges and contact the appropriate billing provider with that record if needed.
Ask concrete data questions
Check the privacy policy for chat retention, uploaded media, backups and third-party processing. Ask which data is removed, which data remains and why. Avoid assuming that removing a character removes every conversation or that a deleted conversation also removes an uploaded voice file. Document an unanswered question as unknown rather than treating silence as a deletion guarantee.
Privacy has limits
A neutral billing descriptor can still be visible to people with access to your statements, email or shared devices. Cryptocurrency is not a guarantee of anonymity; the FTC explains important cryptocurrency risks and transaction visibility. There is no reason to change payment methods simply to finish an account exit.
A support message you can adapt
“Please confirm whether renewal is disabled for subscription [reference], the date my paid access ends, and whether automatic credit purchases are active. Separately, please explain how I can delete my account and what chat or uploaded-media data is retained afterward. Please send the confirmation to the email on my account.”
Replace the brackets with your own reference and remove questions already answered in settings. This guide describes an exit workflow, not a hands-on test of a particular provider. No laboratory scores, response times or universal refund promises are assigned.
